SceneUp

Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 2026

SceneUp is a writing desk. You write a scene, then pin place, face, voice, and rhythm beside it. There is no SceneUp account and no SceneUp server. Your manuscript lives on your device.

01 Who we are

SceneUp (“we”, “us”) is the iOS app that lets you write notebooks and scenes, keep a character list, and pin research to the scene you are writing. This policy explains what stays on your device, what leaves it when you search or send feedback, and how to reach us.

02 What we do not collect

  • We do not ask you to create an account.
  • We do not run a SceneUp backend that stores your pages.
  • We do not sell your information.
  • We do not show ads, and we do not use advertising identifiers (IDFA) or third-party analytics SDKs.
  • We do not operate a Discover page or a film library. Research is only for the scene in front of you.

03 What stays on your device

Unless you turn on iCloud on the device, the following stays local:

  • Notebooks, scene headings and body text, character names, and pins you attach to a scene.
  • Location-scout photos you choose from Photos, stored as files SceneUp keeps for that pin.
  • Voice memos you record, stored as audio files on the device. They are not uploaded to YouTube or to us.
  • Writing preferences (type size, line spacing, goals, and similar settings) in on-device storage.
  • A short cache of searches you already ran, and images you already viewed. You can clear this cache in Settings. Clearing it does not delete your manuscript.

If you export a manuscript or scene research, SceneUp writes a file on the device and opens the system share sheet. You choose where that file goes.

04 Photos and microphone

Photos access is used only to pin a location image to this scene. The microphone is used only to record a voice line for this scene. You can deny either permission. Writing still works.

05 When you tap Search

SceneUp does not search until you tap Search. Then your query is sent to TMDB for film titles, stills, people, credits, and official trailer IDs, and to the YouTube Data API v3 for video search and basic video details when you look for walking shots, interviews, or trailers, or when you paste a YouTube link.

Those services receive the search terms you typed (and, for some Place or Voice searches, a short English suffix such as “walking” or “interview”). They may also receive standard technical data any HTTPS request includes, such as IP address, as described in their own policies.

This product uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB. TMDB’s policy: themoviedb.org/privacy-policy

06 Video

Video plays in the official YouTube player. SceneUp does not download finished films and does not capture frames from the player. Playback follows YouTube’s Terms of Service and Google’s Privacy Policy (youtube.com/t/terms and policies.google.com/privacy).

07 Feedback

If you send feedback from Settings, SceneUp opens Mail on your device. The message can include the text you wrote, the topic you picked (Bug, Idea, or Other), the SceneUp version, and basic device information. That mail is sent only if you send it. We use it to understand the product. We do not use it for advertising.

08 iCloud

If this device is signed in to iCloud, SceneUp may attempt to keep your notebooks in iCloud using Apple’s CloudKit. That sync is provided by Apple. If you are not signed in, manuscripts remain on this device only.

09 Children

SceneUp is a writing tool. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

10 Your choices

  • Do not tap Search, and nothing is sent to TMDB or YouTube for a query.
  • Deny Photos or Microphone; the rest of the app still writes.
  • Clear search and image caches in Settings.
  • Delete a notebook in the app to remove that manuscript and its pins from SceneUp’s store on the device (and from iCloud if sync is in use, subject to Apple’s deletion behavior).
  • Uninstall SceneUp to remove the app’s local data on that device.

If this policy changes, we will update the date at the top. Continued use of SceneUp after an update means you read the new policy.
